Tesla began repairing direct current motors and designing improvements to electrical equipment, created the induction motor and initiated the development of devices using the rotating magnetic field, redesigned direct current dynamos, created the first brushless induction motor powered by alternating current, invented electrical oscillators, meters, and the high voltage transformer known as the Tesla coil, experimented with X-rays, installed alternating current generators at Niagara Falls, which is considered the first modern power station.

He was born on July 10, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. His father was a priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church and his mother was a peasant. Tesla was the fourth of 5 siblings, he was only 9 years old when his older brother was killed in a riding accident.
Tesla studied mathematics and physics at the Technical University of Graz in 1875 and philosophy at the University of Prague in the summer of 1880, these universities claim that he never graduated and in both cases left his studies unfinished.
In 1882, he moved to Paris, France to work for the Continental Edison Company repairing direct current motors and designing improvements for electrical equipment. That same year he created the induction motor and began the development of devices that used the rotating magnetic field. Two years later Tesla arrived in the United States to work at Thomas Edison's headquarters in Manhattan. Tesla surprised Edison by doing all the tasks he asked him to do and even promised to pay him $50,000 to redesign the inefficient direct current dynamos. After several attempts Tesla showed his new design and asked for the money to which Edison replied "Tesla, you do not understand our American humor. Tesla resigned shortly thereafter.
Tesla after a failed attempt to create his own company Tesla Electric Light and Manufacturing was forced to work for a season digging ditches for two dollars an hour to finance himself and in 1887 he was granted more than 30 patents for his inventions in past years and for the first brushless induction motor powered by alternating current, which he presented to the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (American Institute of Electrical Engineers) (now IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). It was there that Tesla attracted the attention of the inventor George Westinghouse who invited him to work in his company Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company's polyphase systems project.
In the 1890s Tesla invented electrical oscillators, meters, and the high-voltage transformer known as the Tesla coil. He also experimented with X-rays, gave short-range demonstrations of radio communication two years before Guglielmo Marconi, and piloted a radio-controlled boat around a swimming pool in Madison Square Garden. Together, Tesla and Westinghouse illuminated the 1891 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago and partnered with General Electric to install alternating current generators at Niagara Falls, creating the first modern power station, an event that marked the end and Tesla's victory in what we know as "The War of the Currents between Edison and Tesla.
In 1899 he moved his laboratory to Colorado Springs with the aim of developing a high-power transmitter and perfecting the means to individualize and isolate the transmitted power and determine the laws of propagation of currents over the earth and the atmosphere, for which he carried out experiments with high voltage and electric field measurements. With sensitive equipment he was able to make measurements of lightning strikes at a great distance from his laboratory. Tesla observed unusual signals that he later believed might be evidence of extraterrestrial radio communications from Mars and claimed to have invented the "Teslascope" for that purpose.
He died at 86 years of age with meager finances and in his lifetime was not given the honor or importance he deserved.
