Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo. - In an event full of energy and enthusiasm, nearly 1,500 members of the Garza community gathered this January 22 at the Institute of Economic and Administrative Sciences (ICEA) to welcome the January-June 2025 school year, where unity and pride in belonging to the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (UAEH) were highlighted.
The event was led by Octavio Castillo Acosta, rector of the UAEH, who said that the new year is a new opportunity to achieve the goals and dreams set, but also a time to reflect on the challenges overcome, which provide the necessary tools to face daily situations with determination and resilience. He also expressed his enthusiasm to meet again with the student body, the raison d'être of the university.
"I want to welcome you to this new semester in your professional and personal formation. It is a pleasure to receive you. Everything we have, from the university infrastructure to the work of the administrative and teaching staff is done for the benefit of you, who are the life and pride of our institution. You chose to be Garza, therefore, carry high the values of this university, which is the highest house of studies in the state of Hidalgo," said the rector.
The president of the Board of Trustees, Lidia García Anaya, said: "The good administration of federal, state and self-generated resources is what allows them to enjoy well-equipped classrooms and laboratories. We are focused on generating more resources to serve our community and continue to position ourselves as a benchmark institution in educational quality, which is continually growing for the benefit of its students and society".
Meanwhile, Montserrat Patiño García, president of the University Student Council of the State of Hidalgo (CEUEH), reiterated her commitment to the university community, inviting them to express their doubts, concerns, comments and ideas with the certainty of being heard and taken into account. He also highlighted the actions implemented to integrate more women and increase the participation of the community in student activities.
It is worth mentioning that, as part of this welcome, the "Chido Bazar" was inaugurated, where local entrepreneurs offered a variety of products, such as pastries, jewelry, clothing, handmade jewelry, food and preserves, among others. The event also included the participation of university talent that enlivened the ceremony with music, recreational activities, as well as a wrestling match.
The event was attended by Arlén Cerón Islas, director of ICEA; Saúl Agustín Sosa Castelán, general secretary of the Academic Staff Union of this university (SPAUAEH); Norma Baños Hernández, general secretary of the Single Union of Workers and Employees of the UAEH (SUTEUAEH); Norma Baños Hernández, general secretary of the Sindicato Único de Trabajadores y Empleados de la UAEH (SUTEUAEH); Noé Chapa Gutiérrez, university dean; Dustin Palacios Noeggerath, president of the ICEA student society; as well as the management staff of the various academic and administrative units.
