Abstract

Identity is a term used by different theoretical perspectives within the field of sociology. A distinctive feature of the sociological use of this concept is that it has an open connotation according to the meaning that each author intends to express when employing this term. Among the authors and works with greater recognition in the field of sociology, there is a different handling of identity and the implications it has for accounting for new and old processes of social reality, without this meaning the total incommensurability of the various theoretical proposals.
