Abstract
According to WHO (2010), OBESITY is a disease resulting from an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat and sugar in individuals, which is detrimental to health. While MALNUTRITION results from an inadequate intake in quantity or quality of nutrients (including caloric and protein deficiency) that affects the proper functioning of individuals (UNICEF, 2009). In a recent study we showed that high sugar intake (30%) causes an increase in the number of fibers with glycolytic metabolism and a proportional decrease of oxidative fibers in the Extensor Digitorum Longus (mEDL) muscle of Control and chronically malnourished rats.
