Abstract
Businesses and governments have begun to accept that we live in a complex world, and that the ability to remain competitive in the case of businesses and to maintain governability and social peace in the case of governments will not depend only on the specific commercial issues they have traditionally dealt with, nor on welfare-type social programs. The current socio-economic scenario demands creative solutions based on genuine collaborative work and a shared vision of generating better living conditions and prosperity for society as a whole. The concepts of shared value creation and social innovation are proposed as key elements to achieve balanced economic development with a high dose of revaluation and dimensioning of the benefits of economic activity and the generation and application of knowledge for the benefit of human beings and the world they inhabit.
