Abstract

In the past, internal interstate migration was related to regional inequalities (especially in the labor markets) in each state of the country. Currently, this situation can be questioned due to the appearance of Metropolitan Zones (ZM) that include several states In these ZM there is an intense movement of people between the municipalities that comprise them. If we analyze internal migration only in terms of interstate flows, we limit the study of internal migration in Mexico. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that Mexican Metropolitan Zones are the protagonists and drivers of the changes of residence of the population in the country. Therefore, the objective of this research is to quantify and understand the importance of intrametropolitan migration flows.
