Abstract
The perception that young people have of democracy is important. We are dealing with young people born during the transformative period of the Mexican political system, who have different values and ideological tendencies than those of previous generations, and who exercise their citizenship in a different way. This should translate into a favorable opinion of democracy, but not an unconditional one. In this regard, we must also consider the socioeconomic conditions that favor this form of government. In this sense, we have introduced the variables level of studies attained and socioeconomic level, and we have related them to the opinion that young people have of democracy. By means of contingency tables, the results show that there is a certain relationship between these variables and democracy, although not a causal one.
