Abstract

It is generally taken for granted that science has been done by men. History, with some exceptions, has marginalized women scientists from the collective memory. This paper presents an outline of women in science in the world and in Mexico. It locates the presence of women in the National System of Researchers (SNI) and the areas in which their work is relevant: only 15 percent of high-level researchers in Mexico are women, with the criterion of having obtained the distinction of emeritus granted by the SNI, and the situation is even more precarious when it comes to decision-making at the top of the definition of plans, policies and programs. In the structure of the Scientific and Technological Consultative Forum, in charge of coordinating the elaboration of the National Science and Technology Plan 2006-2012, the participation of women is minimal.
