Abstract
In recent decades the country has experienced social, economic and demographic changes that are reflected in the various family arrangements, such as the evolution and composition of households. The increasing insertion of women in the labor market and the transformations in the styles of unions have contributed to a complexity in the organization of life as a couple. The formation of unions and the patterns of relationships, organization of roles, as well as the functions and responsibilities among household members, represent a great challenge for understanding the formation of life as a couple, whether by legal bond or by affinity.an incessant change in the traditional patterns of the organization of life in households has been recognized, and a typology of households has been established, based on age, sex, kinship and marital status. In the social and cultural sphere, age and sex imply different patterns in the life cycle.the specific forms assumed by social organization in the sphere of households and families are articulated around various characteristics of coexistence, which is expressed in different types of residential arrangements where the basic demographic components and those related to the social structure are manifested, such as recurrent economic crises, the growing labor insertion of women, migration, and changes in the patterns of marriage and marital dissolution, among others.
