Abstract

This document aims to address the study of one of the metropolitan areas of Hidalgo, so it should be noted that each of these metropolitan areas is in a different phase of the urbanization process, which means different stages of economic development. According to Geyer (2002), as the degree of urbanization advances in a country or city, different economic activities are developed. Those cities in the early stages have been characterized by a broad development of industrial activities. As industry grows, the degree of urbanization increases, along with other activities related to the tertiary sector in all its subdivisions. It is worth mentioning that this is not a mechanical process, in the sense that everything happens in stages. There are indications that in some European countries, and especially in developing countries, the process of urbanization is accompanied by the growth of industry and the tertiary sector (Oliveira and Stern: 1972; 33-36).
