Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to provide a documentary review of the research conducted in the last decade on the existence of burnout and its opposite, engagement, in academic environments, particularly in university students, and the implication they found in their academic performance, mental health, desertion, among other aspects that are of utmost importance for any educational institution. The above invites us to reflect on how interesting it would be to conduct studies on burnout and academic engagement in our institutions because their results would help, for example, in tutoring or educational guidance to detect in a timely manner possible difficulties in students and determine how best to support them.
