On February 24, 1961, the State Congress approved the decree that gave origin to the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo by issuing its Organic Law and one day later, the interim governor, Major Oswaldo Cravioto Cisneros, proceeded to its promulgation.
The construction of the University Unit began in 1971, when President Luis Echeverría Álvarez gave a speech of approval. On December 9 of the same year, the Rector of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo, Mr. Jesús Ángeles Contreras, Hugo Cervantes del Rio representing the President of the Republic, Mr. and Prof. Manuel Sánchez Vite, Governor of the State of Hidalgo and Armando Ponce Coronado, President of the Federation of University Students of Hidalgo, laid the first stone of what today is the City of Knowledge, on a piece of land donated by Mr. Javier Contreras.
It began its operations in 1974 with the Institutes of Social Sciences, Exact Sciences, Accounting and Administrative Sciences and the School of Social Work.
In 1975, the School of Dentistry was located in this unit, and later the Self-Access Center was built, located in front of the esplanade called 25 years of University Autonomy, as well as the Institute of Earth Sciences.
On October 26, 1976 the University Unit was officially inaugurated with the presence of Mr. Jorge Rojo Lugo, constitutional governor of the State, Mr. Carlos Herrera Ordóñez, rector of the UAEH, Dr. Alberto Zoebich Sánchez, dean of the institution, the full Honorable University Council and the president of the FEUH, Aurelio Marín Huazo, the first administrator was Mr. Rogelio Meráz Espinoza.
In 1993, it entered a stage of development, growth and consolidation, fostered by the support obtained from the SEP through the Fund for the Modernization of Higher Education.
Among the most important works are: the Center for International Liaison and Educational Development (CEVIDE), Graduate Classrooms, Isoptic Classrooms, Chemical Research Center (CIQ), General Services.
In December 1998, the UAEH began the construction of the University Sports Center "Carlos Martínez Balmori", which on February 14, 2001 was inaugurated by the President of the Republic Vicente Fox Quesada, accompanied by Manuel Ángel Núñez Soto, Governor of the State, and Juan Manuel Camacho Bertrán, Rector of this University.
In 2001, a new building came into operation: the CITIS (Center for Research in Information Technologies and Systems).
On March 7, 2002, the Biological Research Center building was inaugurated.
In March 2003, a 20-classroom module was delivered to the ICBI institute.
In March 2007, a module of 17 classrooms, 2 kitchens and cubicles for the Bachelor's Degree in Gastronomy was delivered to the ICEA institute.
On April 27, 2011, the Engineering Academic Area Building was inaugurated in the presence of the UAEH Rector, Mr. Humberto Veras Godoy and the Governor of the State of Hidalgo, Mr. Francisco Olvera Ruíz.
On January 20, 2012, the module that housed the Bachelor's Degree in Economics was handed over to ICBI by ICEA.
In March 2014, the Plaza Pabellón Universitario, a shopping center for the benefit of the university community and the society of Hidalgo, was inaugurated by the rector of our alma mater, Mr. Humberto Veras Godoy, accompanied by the governor of the state of Hidalgo, Mr. Francisco Olvera Ruíz.
At the beginning of the University Unit's activities, the Department of Projects, Works and Conservation was responsible for the maintenance and conservation of the areas. Between 1992 and 1994, the General Services Department coordinated the maintenance work, and in 1994 the University City Administration was created under the General Secretariat of the UAEH.
During the inauguration of the University Book Fair on August 27, 2011, the rector of the U.A.E.H., Mr. Humberto Veras Godoy, mentioned that FERILU was being held for the first time in the City of Knowledge in the facilities of the University Sports Center, "Carlos Martínez Balmori".
