The Preparatory School Number 3 was inaugurated on October 10, 1977 by the Constitutional President of the United Mexican States, Mr. José López Portillo, with Mr. José Luis Suárez Molina as Acting Governor of the State and Mr. Carlos Herrera Ordóñez as Rector of the University.

During the administration of the first director, Mr. Juan J. Teerven Gómez, the school had a physical infrastructure of two modules with a student population of 400 students.

At that time, the current curriculum was developed in the other high schools of the university, called Keller Plan, then Modified Keller Plan, later a flexible curriculum was established that complied with these characteristics giving continuity to the current Plan of Studies of the High School of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, which is general to access any area of higher studies, has very specific characteristics, which serve to understand its structure and the way programs and activities that give it its distinctive features are integrated. Such is the case of the cultural, scientific and artistic events in which the School excelled for several years, obtaining first places in the expo innova since 2008, in productive, research, short films, environmental and social impact projects; first places in the Mathematics Olympics, as well as the impact in different events, with great artistic talents of this School detected in the various singing and music contests.

The physical infrastructure currently consists of 28 classrooms distributed in five modules, a virtual classroom, 3 computer centers, an audiovisual room, 3 experimental science laboratories (Chemistry, Physics and Biology), 1 library, 1 cafeteria, 1 stationery store, 2 parking lots, 10 restrooms, two of which are ecological, 14 cubicles for full-time professors, which are used for academic services offices: Head of Laboratory, Library, self-study and Computer Center; Student Services offices (Psychology, Tutoring, Orientation, Social Work, Scholarships and School Medicine ) and areas that support the integral education of students such as Liaison, Extension, Sports, Computer Science and planning ; and 4 management areas comprising the Director's Office, Administrative Sub-Directorate, Academic Secretary's Office and a small boardroom.
