DISCIPLINARY BACKGROUND

Why study the Master's Degree in Health Psychology?

The program focuses on problems such as: the development of theoretical-methodological tools in prevention and health promotion, attention to psycho-socio-cultural factors associated with the health-disease process, and the generation of culturally relevant research in health and emotional regulation. The above is intended to be achieved through comprehensive training in research that promotes the linkage with the community, the productive sector and external institutions during the training of students.

There are social needs and problems that have impacted the well-being and threaten the healthy development of people in all stages of their lives, such as chronic diseases (cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular problems, etc.) that are associated with obesity, nutrition, unhealthy eating behaviors and other phenomena related to psychosocial well-being, as well as factors associated with emotional regulation.

The program is specifically designed with future employability in mind and provides a learner-centered approach to prepare graduates for future studies (PhD) by focusing on both dominant health-related practices, including health promotion, education, occupational health and wellness, community health, and emerging practices associated with psycho-socio-cultural factors impacting holistic wellness, emotion regulation and function in health and research as well as developing competencies to become their own employers.

To train teachers in Health Psychology with a solid academic preparation, who contribute with basic and applied research to disease prevention, health promotion, psychosocial well-being, as well as to problems related to emotional regulation, and who in turn have an impact on groups that require it at regional, state and national levels.
