DISCIPLINARY BACKGROUND

Why study the Master's Degree in Health Gerontology?

The socioeconomic, educational, family, physical and psychological health characteristics are the elements that determine the need for the training of professionals capable of developing and implementing interventions aimed at improving and maintaining the health of the older adult population.

There is a growing demand for services on the part of older adults, as well as their maintenance and/or reinsertion in the socioeconomic dynamics of the country and the state, not only for the benefit of individual well-being, but also for the functioning of the social and economic structure in a viable and sustainable manner. The different agencies of state institutions providing services to the older adult population, involving the public, private and university sectors, require professionals with tools focused on intervention in the health of older adults, from a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach, by linking and communicating with health disciplines, social sciences and even with highly analytical and empathetic qualities with the needs of this population group.

Thus, the Master in Gerontology of Health is aimed at training gerontologists and health personnel, as well as all professionals working in the field of health care for the elderly; specializing in the generation of applied research in the management and application of intervention tools with a comprehensive, holistic and humanistic approach, for active and healthy aging.

To contribute to the formation of postgraduates of academic excellence in Health Gerontology, based on an interdisciplinary, holistic and humanistic perspective, which includes both the acquisition and development of knowledge, skills and gerontological strategies, oriented to the generation and application of research, evaluation, management and intervention actions for health in aging.
