LINES OF RESEARCH

Ecology, specifically the interactions between birds and plants. In this topic he studies seed dispersal by birds and the distribution patterns and abundance of hummingbirds as a function of the abundance and richness of their food resource. She is very interested in the spatio-temporal-ecological variation inherent in this type of systems and the search for patterns in them.

Biological conservation. He focuses on different aspects related to the protection and reforestation of mountain mesophyll forest and pine-oak forest.

CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS

  • Abundance and richness of hummingbirds in relation to their food resource.
  • Forest conservation.
  • Bird-plant interactions.

When planning for species conservation, the human side of the problem must be considered. This man's land, located in the pine-oak forests of the Cofre de Perote in Veracruz, Mexico, is home to several endangered bird species. For more than 30 years he has been carefully exploiting their resources. This has not happened in the neighboring communities, which are now heavily deforested. He was born at the beginning of the 20th century and is one of the 60 million Mexicans in extreme poverty (i.e. food, opportunities and education poverty).

HUMAN RESOURCES TRAINING

Director of student theses (2001 to 2021): 25 bachelor's degree graduates, 11 master's degree graduates, 3 doctoral degree graduates and 3 postdoctoral degree graduates.
