PhD in Sciences "Biology" with specialty in Edaphology, obtaining the degree in 1998 at the Faculty of Sciences of the UNAM; in May 2007 he obtained the PhD in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, he is a member of the National Research System CONACyT, Level 1 since 2001 and with PRODEP-SEP recognition. During his academic career he has been a professor at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Cuautitlán-UNAM, Part-time Professor at UAM-Iztapalapa and from 1998 to date as Full-Time Research Professor C and Exclusive Professor at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo. Founder of the Biology degree program in 1999 and of the Environmental Geology Engineering degree program at UAEH. In April 2000, he founded the soil laboratory of the Center for Research in Earth and Materials Sciences. He has supervised 24 undergraduate, 8 master's and 11 doctoral theses, has published 5 books, 98 articles in indexed peer-reviewed journals, 56 dissemination articles. Dr. Acevedo has participated in 58 national and international congresses and collaborates as a referee of national and international journals. In the state of Hidalgo, Dr. Otilio has been promoting the study of forest soils and watersheds to establish programs focused on soil conservation and rehabilitation. His line of research is taxonomy, soil genesis and mineralogy of the argillic fraction of acid soils. Dr. Acevedo has been invited to participate as Professor of the International Course-Diplomado of Soil Science for 12 years, which has been given in different Universities of the Mexican Republic. He is evaluator of research projects of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, CONACyT, Fondos Mixtos del estado de Hidalgo y Puebla; He collaborates as a jury member for master's and doctoral programs at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Colegio de Postgraduados, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, UAEH and UNAM, He also participates in the evaluation of Academic Bodies at the national level by the Undersecretary of Higher Education and as a peer evaluator of National Quality Graduate Programs CONACyT-SEP, evaluator in the selection process of postdoctoral stays linked to the strengthening of the quality of national postgraduate programs. From November 1998 to November 2004 he was director of the Center for Research in Earth Sciences, Coordinator of the Division of Research and Graduate Studies of the UAEH from November 2004 to April 2010. The Honorable University Council of the UAEH elected him as director of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences UAEH (2010-2011 and 2011-2017). Coordinator of the Division of Research, Development and Innovation (2018-2019), director of the Institute of Basic Sciences and Engineering from January 8, 2020 to date. He was appointed by the Governor of the State of Hidalgo as academic representative of the Mixed Funds of the Council of Science and Technology (2005-2012). In August 2008, he was nominated by the President of the Consortium of Mexican Universities (CUMex-2008-2010) as National Head of Chairs. President of the Science and Technology Commission of the Hidalgo Citizen Advisory Council (2008-2018). In October 2015 he was distinguished by the Autonomous University of Queretaro by imposing my name to the Special Chair of Chemistry, Environment and Sustainable Development, he is currently Vice President of the Mexican Society of Soil Sciences (2019-2021).
