History


The General Archive is an instance dependent on the General Secretariat of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, the background that has the institutional documentary activity is, in the first instance, the safeguarding of the documentation generated by the producing areas, it is relevant the organization that some administrative units of the University have been developing and maintaining concern to make their archives efficient spaces, facilitators of their institutional work.

Since the creation of the most distant antecedent of our University, the Literary Institute and School of Arts and Crafts in 1869, a few days after the erection of the state of Hidalgo by the decree of President Benito Pablo Juarez Garcia, the generation of the first documents began, the generation of the first documents that are part of the funds that houses the General Archive began, to which were added all those that with the evolution and changes that the institute underwent were accumulated over time, until reaching the first 51 years of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo.

Understanding archival documents as all information, regardless of its format, inherent to our functions, in 1970 the photography department was created within the areas of the School of Engineering, which later became a unit responsible for audiovisual media since 1976, thanks to this effort photographic, phonographic and audiovisual material of important events that have shaped the history of the institution is preserved to this day.

At the beginning of the eighties of the twentieth century, the Center for Studies on the University was created as a precedent that influenced the concern of having an institutional archive, this project arose from the concern of members of the university community, who conducted the first research on the institution, taking as a source historical documents collected, this background is linked to the need to have a comprehensive archival system that detonated the research on the University in all areas.

Between 1996 and 1997, a project was presented for the creation of the Historical Archive, the main task was to compile documentation considered to be of a historical nature and store these documents, assigning the "Leonor Gutiérrez de Samperio" Memorial Library for this purpose. Over the years, some institutions began to send archive boxes to this space that were no longer consulted on their premises, generating a significant accumulation, and trying to use this physical space as an archive for semi-active or inactive documentation.

The contemporary stage is the one that is being developed and that arises with the congregation of a group of officials and researchers of the University, which in 2007 visited different archives in the country to learn about facilities and processes; from these conclusions began the management of resources for the architectural work of the General Archive of the UAEH, which was developed from November 2008 to November 2010. In 2009, work began on the comprehensive proposal for equipment and the first proposal for the creation of an archival management system for the University.

On April 20, 2010, by agreement and installation of the Secretary General, Lic. Gerardo Sosa Castelán, the Archival and Documentary Regulation Commission was created, giving way to the creation of the General Archive Directorate. Since that date, the processes of integrally equipping the building, diagnosing the facilities and processes of the university archives, and designating collaboration networks through the figure of Operational-Normative Links in each of the Academic and Administrative Units of the institution have been carried out, linking with institutions and recognized personalities of national archival science, which have contributed to the strengthening of projects and programs of the archive, among other actions that aim to establish the Institutional System of Document Management of the UAEH, in this sense, on October 31, 2011, the Mtro. Humberto Augusto Veras Godoy, Rector of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, began the process of methodological construction, visiting the General Archive staff to the entire organizational structure to make a diagnosis and build the archival methodological tools, followed by the training process of staff inherent to the creation, management and safekeeping of archives.
